My son was born 14 weeks premature, and just turned 4. He is doing wonderfully, but he is… uh, let’s say “highly neurodivergent”. He has immense sensory needs and regulation difficulties.
We have been going to physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, feeding therapy and more pretty much since he was born. He now attends a developmental special education preschool and also still goes to 4 therapy appointments per week.
So… I’m a momXpert now. I know a LOT about various brands and supplies. And Harkla is a brand that has consistently delivered for me.
We have many products by Harkla, ranging from weighted compression vests to movement dice to these brain break cards.
We have an amazing pediatric occupational therapist - an exceptionally particular woman who praises this brand as being actually developmentally useful and rooted in evidence-based science/practice.
These cards are no exception! Excellent quality printing and materials. Basic, and not too distracting/overstimulating. Nice design touches, like how box can be used as a stand. And easy-to-use!
The only con is that my son has a harder time following multi-step directions and so he needs some guidance to complete some of the cards… but that’s part of what he is developing.
Not cheap, but it is great quality. Another 5 star product, as I expect from Harkla.
Extra props to Harkla for making these activities simpler for “normal” parents. Instructions are clear, design is simple. My little boy and I have a whole team of professionals… but few parents get that. Products like this make helpful tools more accessible to all who could benefit from it.
We’ve come such a long way from when I was a kid!
