How Heavy Should My Weighted Blanket Be?

What Are the Dimensions of the Blankets?
What is the Science Behind Weighted Blankets?
The science behind weighted blankets is called Deep Touch Pressure (DTP). DTP is simply distributed weight across the body. If you'd like to read more about the natural benefits of DTP, we wrote a guide to it here.
DTP releases serotonin in the body which turns into melatonin, as well as decreased nervous system activity. These combine to give a feeling of calm, relaxation and naturally improved sleep. If you'd like to dive into the studies about weighted blankets and the science behind them, we wrote an article on it here.
Who Do Weighted Blankets Work for?
Weighted blankets have historically been used for those with special needs, commonly referred to as autism blankets. However, they are beneficial to most people. Especially people who suffer from sleep issues.
If you'd like to dive into the benefits of weighted blankets for specific people, we have some articles covering that here:
Some families have used our weighted blankets for toddlers. We recommend the user be at least 2 years and up before using a toddler weighted blanket.
Do Weighted Blankets Work for Adults?

I purchased this weighted blanket at 25lbs because it was the only one that would fit my queen size bed. I don’t recall seeing one that weighed less and had the same dimensions, I may be wrong, but I believe that’s what I saw. I’m a 200 lb. man and also recognize that the I was advised that it should be 10% of my body weight. For that I take full responsibility for my wrongful purchase. The first night I slept with it I had nightmares of me drowning and woke up no less than 5 times that evening. The blanket was just simply to heavy. The problem is that I threw the packaging away because I was so excited for my new purchase and never thought I would want to return it. My wife is furious at me! I still sleep with it on me but just on my lower half. I’m literally suffering so I don’t get berated by my wife.
I got this blanket as a Christmas present for my 10 year old. Initially he shrugged and said “thank you”- which is the lukewarm reception I expected from a 10 year old boy gifted a blanket. But then I tucked him in at night and he said “wow- this blanket is awesome!” And in the morning he reiterated that the blanket is amazing. He falls asleep more easily and sleeps more soundly. And we pack it up in the the convenient carrying bag for traveling- he doesn’t want to be without it! Thank you!
This is actually my 3rd purchase for your childrens weighted blanket. I first purchased for youngest grandson who is on the Autistic spectrum. He has had his blanket for about 2 yrs now and the cover washes and dries and looks like new to date. I am very pleased with this blanket, as it has provided the comfort my grandson needed. Recently my second grandson was having some emotional turmoil in his life and I felt that this would help settle him in order to sleep more soundly. It was a 2019 christmas gift and it also has proven to be a success. This most recent purchase is for the youngest grand daughter who loved her brothers so much that she wanted one also. It will be her bday gift this month. The quality of this weighted blanket as well as the results it has provided has brought me back to your site again and again. I will continue to share with anyone who wants to know more about such a wonderful product.
Sincerely, Denise Cormier
I am looking to return the blanket. For the money which is so much more than other weighted blankets it is not worth the more $. The cover tore due to the weight of blanket (10 lb) and it should fully zipper inside instead of tying the corners and middle because of the weight of blanket it is hard to keep even and not bunching. Son likes the $20 one I grabbed at a random store better than this $89 one.
