Weighted Lap Pad (5lbs)

Lararae

“Great for my 4 year old. He has sensory processing disorder and needs weight sometimes. It helps him nap and sit still at school. The fabric is soft and snuggly. Great product, made with care.”

Who We Are

FAQS

Description
Much like a weighted blanket, the weighted lap pad is a sensory tool that offers Deep Touch Pressure (DTP) to a person’s legs as it rests on the lap when in a seated position. The weighted lap pad is often used in classrooms to provide some sensory input and help students stay seated. The weighted lap pad can also be used anywhere when adults or children need to stay sitting for an extended period. It’s wonderful for activities like:
  • Car rides
  • Plane rides
  • Mealtimes
  • While doing homework
  • Sitting in the grocery cart
Our minky dot design makes this a perfect sensory blanket, as the soft minky fabric, combined with the dots and added weight makes a sensory input trifecta! This sensory combo gives your child an easy way to fulfill their fidget needs while calming them with the weight. Our goal at Harkla is to help your child live a happier, healthier life, and we both know getting them to relax and focus in class is one of the highest priorities.

Why The Weight?

DEEP TOUCH PRESSURE

The science behind weighted lap pads is called Deep Touch Pressure (DTP). DTP is simply distributed weight across the body. If you'd like to read more about the natural benefits of DTP, we wrote a guide to it here.

DTP releases serotonin in the body which turns into melatonin, as well as decreased nervous system activity. These combine to give a feeling of calm, relaxation and naturally improved sleep. If you'd like to dive into the studies about weighted lap pads and the science behind them, we wrote an article on it here.

Perfect Weight

This blanket size is perfect since is not too heavy & design is like a very cute quilted blanket, & very washable. Not sure about the quality of sleep yet however, keeps my baby sleeping slightly longer. Just don't put it on their chest.. place below the belt for safety..

It's small, but efficient

I guess I have to say the weighted thing is a great idea. My daughter is all over the place sometimes. Not diagnosed, but daddy is adhd and given her beautiful mind and energy I think we can safely say she's just like her daddy. This really does what it should. Even if it's just sitting through a movie we're all watching together. Or setting it on her lap while we're coloring or hanging out, it helps to keep her at ease. Honestly it helps me a bit too. The weight gives a support and makes you feel secure. The squishyness of it offers something to fidget with. It's designed very well and has held up for months already. We are actually thankful for this around here. I think it's definitely worth giving it a shot.

It's a weighted blanket

This fits in an adult's lap. It's obviously weighted. It seems a bit expensive, in that at time of review, it's $53.99. You can get a weighted blanket to fit a queen sized bed for the same price. Hence, in my view, the value just isn't there to justify this.

Cozy and lightly weighted

This is super soft and my kid loved how it felt on her. I wish it was a bit longer to really cover over her lap perfectly, as it kept slipping off. Otherwise, a great item.
